OUR MENU changes on a regular basis; food, wine and cocktails are all ingredient lead and therefore change when the best stuff is at its best. Menus shown are shown as a sample only.
Coal Vaults is a new restaurant set within an historic space on Soho’s bustling Wardour Street, now open for dinner and drinks six days a week (and lunch on weekedays). Originally used for storing coal in the early 19th Century, the space has been restored and transformed using materials from copper, timber, steel, and old London stock brickwork. The space has a raw feel to it, with five separate vaults for semi-private dining and an intimate bar and dining room with a total capacity for 100 diners.
Founded by a young entrepreneur Simo (Martyn Simpson) and a random dog walker (Andy Kanter), the two have assembled a strong team of rising stars. The kitchen is spearheaded by Chef James Knox Boothman (A Little of What You Fancy, The French House, GRUB at Bethnal Green Working Men's Club), with menu consultation from Chef Magnus Reid (The Rooftop Café). The bar is run by Jerome Slesinski.
Coal Vaults is a case of doing everything to the highest standard – making everything we can in house, from bread, to preserves, to our own alcohol infusions, combining food and drink together. The small-plate menu features ingredient-led cuisine, focussing on quality and using seasonal produce.
With every dish on the menu matched to a cocktail, there is as much emphasis on the drinks as the food. The adjoining bar gives the best quality cocktails, with home-infused blends and fresh ideas. A tailored selection of wines is also available as well as beer from local London breweries.
